How we started.

“It’ll only be a month… “

It was Covid season and we were eventually allowed out of our homes.

Lockdown meant that you either wanted a bike to exercise but couldn’t find a wheel, never mind a bike, or you were spending your time tidying your shed or the garage.

We found an empty shop in Faringdon and hoped the Shed Clearers didn’t meet the Bike Buyers on their way down to our little shop. Well, they didn’t. We opened our shop four days after getting the key to an empty High Street unit in town. (Thank you, Alex, for your support and generosity!)

“If you build it, they will come.”

And they did. Both the bike donations and many lovely people looking for a bike from our local community.

Recycling a bike for you.

At Farcycles, we believe everyone should have access to a suitable bike. That’s why we refurbish and recycle bikes from all backgrounds—whether they’ve been gathering dust in a shed, left outside for years, or passed down through generations. Every bike is carefully checked, with safety components inspected or replaced as needed. Any unusable parts are responsibly recycled.

Thanks to generous community donations, we always have a changing selection of bikes, from racing and mountain bikes to vintage and children’s models. We also supply helmets, lights, repair kits, and more. If you’re looking for something specific, we can help source it. Let us help you find the perfect ride!

Servicing.

As we only source bikes through the kind donations from our community, we have a wide variety to choose from which is changing all the time. We have racing bikes, mountain bikes, vintage bikes, hand-built bikes, pop-to-the-shop bikes, children’s bikes, and balance bikes of all shapes and sizes.

We are also able to supply helmets, lights, pumps, repair kits, inner tubes, propstands, mudguards and baskets. If we don’t have what you want, we have a range of suppliers to source pretty much anything.

Our volunteers.

We are fortunate to have a very friendly and supportive community in Faringdon. The shop benefits from more than a dozen loyal volunteers who help us in a variety of ways from bike repairs, manning the shop, decorating, bike collection and delivery, and home mechanics.

You don’t need to be an avid cyclist to join Farcycles. We have all sorts of activities that might appeal, either involving being in the shop, taking bikes apart, searching online for more bikes, running social media campaigns or even administration. If you are interested, we’d love to talk to you.
